Week 2 FMP

This week I wanted to concentrate on patterns and texture. I created rubbings of a Camphor chest which is a wooden chest for blankets that’s carved into. I don’t know specifically whether it’s Chinese or Japanese however majority of them are Chinese. But the effect I got wasn’t what I wanted. The pattern isn’t as strong as I wanted it. I used a variety of materials from soft pastels to oils pastels. I also did a rubbing of the front of a Japanese woodcut book. I though this was really interesting and I hope to incorporate Japanese writing somewhere within my work.

I also decided to try creating some of my own patterns inspired by Japanese patterns that I’d researched. They’re also inspired by patterns that are placed on Japanese rice/noodle bowls.
