I began my day by adding tea and coffee which I made the previous night) to half of my remaining pulp. I wanted to get a nice brown colour which I did however it wasn’t as pigmented as I would’ve hoped. I did add more coffee but it didn’t really do anything. After yesterday I wanted to see if making a new mould and deckle would make my process more effective. I used a smaller canvas this time and used the remaining magnetic door frame material. the only way I can describe this material is the material that is underneath a dress that you would wear for fancy dress. It’s that kind of mesh netting. I used different pins this time and pulled the material very tight so that it would fit really close to the frame so that it wouldn’t sag like the original mould that I had created. Instantly after making I knew that it was going to work a lot better. Unfortunately I didn’t take images of the process making the mould and deckle which is really disappointing.

I started making the paper by using the last of the plain pulp and proceeded to male sheets until I no longer had any pulp left. I did decide to blend the pulp again to see if it would make a difference and it did. By watching both videos I can see that I’m able to get a thinner sheet but also I’m able to get more water out than the sheets I made yesterday. The outcome of these sheets were extremely better than yesterdays produce. The sheets were a lot thinner but most of the sheets held together in a square. I also found. New technique which was scraping the underneath of the mould and deckle. This drained the water that was sitting underneath the pulp. It made a big difference. Also, when it came to getting the paper out of the mould I would scrape the underneath again to ease the paper out. I was really please with how they turned out because the sheets I made previously were very thick and didn’t stay in the shape I wanted. I then moved on to the tea/coffee stained pulp and when I added it to the water it was very pale which is a shame but it was still a really nice colour. It kind of reminded me of milky tea. The pulp with the tea and coffee was incredibly smooth and it spread across the mould and deckle very evenly. I continued until there was no pulp left. During the process I decided to create two new pulp colour by using turmeric for a yellow pulp and beetroot with paprika for pink/purple pulp. I will let them sit until tomorrow morning where I will continue to make more paper.
