Initial research

I began with creating an idea sheet with different  Folklore, Fable, Fairy tale, Myth and Legends. I started off by writing down as many of them as I can remember and began researching them through books and google. I wanted to research a wide variety of myths and legends etc because I wanted to have a wider range of choices for the final outcome. I started with Jason and the Argonauts because it was one of the films I remember watching when growing up.

Jason and the Argonauts

Jason is a hero from Greek mythology who was a leader of the Argonauts. The quest for the golden fleece is featured in Greek literature. Jason was married to the sorceress Madea.

Rapunzel

Rapunzel is a German fairytale which is included in the Grimms’ Fairy Tales. It was turned into an animated movie called Tangled in 2010 by Disney. The reason I wanted to have a look at this particular fairytale s because Tangled is one of my favourite Disney films but also because I had very long hair as a child and my parents always joked around and said that they were going to lock me up in a tower like Rapunzel.

Little Red riding hood

The meaning behind the little red riding hood story was to not talk to strangers and also to not follow them to their homes, which is something I didn’t find out until a few months ago which is quite bizarre because this was one of my favourites stories to hear as a child.

Fungus the bogeyman

The hobbit

The Hobbit is a film and novel by J.R.R Tolkien about a mythical creature on an unexpected journey involving a dragon. I haven’t read the book however I have watched the film. Hobbits are very short creature with hairy feet.

Medusa

Medusa was known as one of the three monstrous gorgons in Greek mythology. She is described to have venomous snakes instead of hair. It was said that if you looked into her eyes you would turn to stone. She’s been included in films like clash of the titans, Percy Jackson and the lighting thief and 7 faces of Dr. Lao.
