Paul Cezannes – ‘Mont Sainte Victorie’

This oil painting caught my eye because it has a magical feel to it. It looks like an illustration I would see in a story book. I find it interesting how it’s not super detailed but you can see the features of the land. I feel as though the way Cezanne has painted this is the way I would approach painting a landscape like this. There’s a very minimalistic colour range but you can sense the foreground, background and middle ground. The tree frames the painting and brings it all together. When I look at the tree I can almost see it moving like its being swept by wind.

Claude Monet -‘ La maison de L’artiste a giverny’

It’s such a beautiful painting, It’s so delicate and peaceful. It’s similar to the cezannes piece, it’s full of texture from the different colours that he has used to form the scenery. Every time I go to look at the painting I’m always seeing something new or the colours begin to change. It’s a very though out piece of work and the composition is great.
