Friday 11th of September

Today’s lesson was very therapeutic and calm. It started off by drawing seed heads, which I quite enjoyed. I used pencil and pen for my drawings. The reason I used these is because I like how much detail you can make because the tip is so fine. I began my drawings with a 3b pencil to get the shape/outline. I then used a 4b to bring out the detail off the seed head. For the pen, I created little thumbnails along side each pencil drawing just so I could see the different effect. The pen drawings were a bit faster to draw. After I finished my drawings, I began practicing easy stitches to prepare me for next weeks lesson where I’ll develop both within each other. I made 2 test pieces to begin with. I learn how to hand stitch when I was younger as my mum taught me. I also used hand stitch within my summer homework. I was only using three stitches to begin with; the fly stitch, bullion stitch and running stitch. To then progress further I created another two pieces experiment with the size of the stitch and also the thickness in threads. I created different patterns for both. The first one is a representation of a plant. I used the bullion stitch and fly stitch mainly as it created a representation to the details on a plant. The second one is patterns from sashiko form. Sashiko is a form of decoration to mend clothing.
